Overview:
|
This course will introduce the fundamental concepts of the emerging field of biophotonics. This highly interdisciplinary field, which involves the study of interactions of light with biological tissue, requires a solid understanding of the physics and engineering of light, optics, and lasers, as well as a basic understanding of biology and medicine. The course content will be presented in three blocks: 1) Biophotonics Principles, 2) Diagnostic Biophotonics, and 3) Therapeutic Biophotonics. Course material will be from a required text as well as selected papers from the current literature. An optional 1 hour of credit will be given for students wishing to complete a semester-long laboratory-based project and term paper on a selected topic. |
